Diabetics have a much greater risk of having eye problems than those who do not have diabetes. It is recommended that diabetics visit their optometrist or ophthalmologist at least once a year and more if you are having problems. If you have just been diagnosed with diabetes then go for an eye exam immediately. You should contact your physician if you develop black spots in your vision, blurred vision, flashes of light and even blank spots in your vision.

In order to prevent eye problems you should control your blood pressure and your blood sugar. Check it e at least once a day. Take your medications exactly as prescribed by your physician. Walking is known to drop your pressure. Start walking every day for at least 30 minutes.

You blood sugar can be controlled by a diabetic diet, walking, and blood pressure control. A diabetic diet is nothing more than making wise choices. For example change your baked potato with butter and sour cream to a sweet potato with a little cinnamon. Eat fish at least twice a week. Bake and broil your meat rather than fry.

These are small changes that add up to make a big difference in blood glucose level, weight, blood pressure and how you feel. Purchase a journal and write down your diet, your exercise routine, and your blood pressure and your glucose levels.
