A Passion For Marketing
A Passion For Marketing
By Paul Orme
Remember when you were a kid or teenager and you did something like mow lawns, trim trees, or sell lemonade to make a little money? Remember how quickly you started imagining how much money you could actually make? Kids and teenagers still do it today, and many times we adults do as well. But, we also have to remember that reality doesn’t always turn out as rosy as our dreams or imaginations. I remember my father used to tell me that something wasn’t actually worth anything unless you have a willing buyer with cash in hand. It’s easy to forget that sometimes, and it’s good advice that rings true today, and will still be true tomorrow.
So, what are your expectations for your business? Do you expect to make millions of dollars by creating one ebook? Do you think that you could make ten thousand dollars by writing articles? We need to remember that success is earned through hard work and experience. The Internet can be a very lucrative business market, and it’s much easier to make money online than anywhere else. But, it’s easy to forget that it’s still a business, and as a business, it has to be attended to and grown. If you think of your online business as a garden, it may help you understand my point. You know a garden takes work. You have to plow the ground, plant the seeds, provide water, keep the weeds out, and finally if all goes well, you get to gather your produce.
Of course, not every seed will turn into a growing plant. It takes a lot more than one seed to have a plentiful garden. The same applies to your business. You need more than one way to make money online, and you will need to spend the time to water (market) those seeds and help them grow before they have a chance to produce profits for you. For example, if you have a few ebooks you are trying to sell, you need to have a website (plowing), and your products (the seeds). You water your seeds by doing things like writing articles, recruiting affiliates, advertising, participating in relevant forums, etc. Will all of the seeds produce sales? Most likely not, but if you provide plenty of water, some of them will. Don’t start your online business by expecting to make millions this year, start by expecting to plant enough seeds and applying enough water to make at least some of those seeds profitable. Then, when you understand the process, you can plant more, which means your business grows.
